Exercise #2

A.     Emirati women and workforce in a clash of culture.

Where is the conflict and Who is involved??
The conflict happens here in the UAE and Emirati men and women are all involved.

What is the conflict?  What is the cause of the problem?
It’s about women wanting to study\work in a mixed environment, but men disagree with them. Some families and tribes are still conservative about traditions and think that if women in their family work with men, it’ll bring shame to the family.

What is the cultural view (I/G; H/S; P/F) behind the conflict?
The article shows that shame-honor is the cultural view. I feel that people think about what others will say and think about them more than if what they do is right or wrong.

What is the best solution to the problem?
In my point of view, educate men and spread knowledge that it’s okay for women to work in a mixed environment is the best thing to do. People’s mind most change, there’s no different between men and women, they both can achieve the same things in the same ways. Do not underestimate what women can do .Women also should win their families trust and show men that they’re as good as men are in their job. World is moving on and the UAE is developing too, world won’t stop if men don’t let their sisters or wife work in that specific environment.

B.     WorldViews Quiz.

Explain what your world-view is and how it influences how you see the world?

My world-view quiz showed an equal result between power-fear and honor-shame. First, power-fear, it’s not between the government and people, it’s between people themselves. Men, who are stronger and have the power, control women’s life who can’t say anything because they’re that weak to defend themselves. I believe that the strongest group live a better life, where I live and what I experienced in my short timeline taught me that. I mean being in the smartest group will give you a chance to learn from them and then be as smart as they are. Being with famous or known people will allow you to meet and talk to people who are higher level than you that if you were in different group you’ll wish to see them in real life. Second, honor-shame, I've heard the sentence (what will others think of you?) so many times in my life that I can tell when people will say it again. Whenever I’m about to do something, my family say it out loud, what will people think of you, it’s a shame! People around me really do care about others opinions about them. I hate the idea of thinking about people, but not thinking about myself and what I want. If it’s not wrong and not against my beliefs, I’ll do it without any fear.

Exercise #1

Is bullfighting cultural acceptable?

Bullfighting will never be acceptable to me, it doesn't worth the risk.
Both people and bulls might die for nothing.
